Hurst Home Remodeling Volunteers to Repair Historic Cemetery

CLEVLEAND, October 16, 2013 – Hurst Remodeling, along with other volunteers with the NARI Cares program, spent part of the weekend helping to maintain one of Cleveland's oldest cemeteries. Pat Hurst, the owner of Hurst Remodeling, along with Hurst carpenter Tom Sutter volunteered to re-roof two mausoleums at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland.

The Woodland Cemetery is a Cleveland owned historic cemetery that is in need of major renovations and upkeep, as it is mainly supported by volunteers and donations. The cemetery has a long history and some very noteworthy people have been interned there. The architecture of some of the mausoleums and headstones include incredible detail and require careful maintenance to keep them preserved.

Cleveland's Woodland Cemetery is located at 6901 Woodland Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood differs from other cemeteries. According to the cemetery website , "It's sixty level acres include mausoleums in classical, Victorian, Egyptian, and Richardson rustic designs. These varied structures, along with angels, obelisks, and military memorials have caused Woodland to be favorably recognized in Silent Cities: The Evolution of the American Cemetery (1989) as possessing a "profusion of well-designed monuments." In addition to being a Cleveland Landmark, since 1986 Woodland Cemetery has had the rare distinction of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places."

NARI Cares is the Community Outreach program of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, a national association that promotes professionalism in the construction field. All time, labor and materials are donated by members of the organization to worthy causes.
